Why has Kin been set up?

Kin has been set up in response to creative businesses expressing a desire to form a united local community. We talked to around 100 people working in or running a creative business and discussion is ongoing. The demand for a new way to connect people and allow them to promote themselves online was immense, so Kin was born out of that consultation process.

What’s the thinKIN?

We have created the site because we believe that if everyone in the creative sector got together, a powerful community of individuals and organisations would form. We spoke to people in the sector before creating the site and virtually everyone said they felt that they would like to be part of a wider network and that referrals and networking opportunities would help their business.

What is different about Kin?

Kin has developed as a result of the ideas and suggestions of local creative people. Kin prides itself on knowing what creative people like and on being a welcoming business network.

Kin also recognises that we are all busy being creative and can’t commit to regular events. That is why the website allows for a virtual business community.

Kin-etiquette

We don’t want to preach – we’re sure you are all decent people who will respect the Kin creative community. We do have a few rules, though, we would ask all Kin members to abide by.

What does Kin classify as a creative business?

The Creative Industries are described by The Department for Culture Media and Sport as ‘those activities which have their origin in individual creativity, skill and talent and which have the potential for wealth and job creation through the generation and exploitation of intellectual property’.
